In commemoration of the 2021 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) day, DGI Consult collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), World Health Organization (WHO) – Nigeria, and other partners to organize a road walk on Saturday 11th December 2021. The road walk from Unity Fountain to the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja was led by the Honourable Minister of Health. It was followed by a Ministerial press briefing at the Federal Ministry of Health.
On the 13th December 2021, a policy dialogue was held as part of the activities to commemorate the 2021 UHC day. The dialogue convened by the Federal Ministry of Health brought together key stakeholders in the health sector to discuss strategies for achieving the theme of the 2021 UHC day which is “leave no one’s health behind: invest in health systems for all’.
DGI also joined the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA) and other partners to commemorate the 202I Universal Health Coverage (UHC) day in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The event involved a road walk during which the residents of Lafia were sensitized about the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme and a stakeholder’s town hall meeting to present the Agency’s scorecard, challenges and forge consensus on the way forward.
At the town hall meeting, DGI Consult disseminated the key learnings and achievements of the Christian Aid-funded UHC project implemented across four wards in Keffi LGA of Nasarawa State. Notable among the key project achievements are (a) increased service utilization as a result of combining the purchase of health insurance premium for the poor and vulnerable population with effective community engagement, and (b) adoption of vulnerable persons by prominent persons within the communities as a result of effective sensitization of philanthropists as well as informal sector and religious organizations.
Participants were urged to see UHC as everyone’s business and the government was encouraged to involve the communities in UHC policy design. These will contribute significantly towards putting the country on the right track for achieving UHC at the grassroots.
