In 2020, DGI Consult provided start-up technical support to Gombe State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (GoHealth) to provide a sound operational framework for the commencement of full health insurance operations. After about five years of implementing the state health insurance scheme, DGI Consult was engaged to provide additional technical support to reposition the Agency in light of emerging health insurance operational reforms.
The technical support involved the review of GoHealth’s operational documents (operational guidelines, establishment plan and condition of service), and capacity building for the Board members of the agency. A desk review of relevant health insurance operational documents at the state and national level and key informant interviews with key stakeholders were conducted to elicit information on the key areas of modification in the operations of GoHealth, based on the current health insurance policy and operational reforms in Nigeria.
To corroborate the information elicited from the desk review and key informant interviews, a 3-day stakeholders’ technical workshop was held in Lagos State from 29th to 31st of October 2024 with the Board members of GoHealth and other relevant stakeholders from Gombe State. The workshop was aimed at reflecting on the implementation status of the Gombe contributory health scheme, the challenges and lessons learnt and chart a course of action towards repositioning GoHealth to effectively implement its mandate. Through engaging group work sessions, the GoHealth operational documents were reviewed by the stakeholders to align with current health insurance realities.
The stakeholders’ workshop also included a capacity building session to deepen the knowledge of the members of the GoHealth Governing Board on the concept of management and leadership for providing effective strategic direction to the Agency for optimal performance.
DGI Consult will provide further necessary support for GoHealth to effectively implement the revised operational documents based on current health insurance operational priorities in Nigeria.
