In furtherance of the objective of replicating an effective model of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) interventions at the grassroots, the community UHC Project being implemented by the Development Governance International Foundation (DGIF) in Keffi LGA of Nasarawa State with funding from Christian Aid Nigeria organized a 1-day National Knowledge Sharing Forum on the 10th of February 2023. The 1-day experience sharing forum was organized to disseminate the details of the Christian Aid-funded UHC intervention including the approaches, accomplishments, and lessons learned towards expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare to the poor and vulnerable population.
The 1-day forum tagged “Effective Community Engagement for Improved Health Insurance Uptake and Utilization” was attended by donors, development partners, Executive Secretaries of the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA), Nasarawa State Primary Heath Care Development Agency (NAPHDA), stakeholders from National-level health MDAs, CSO representatives, project beneficiaries, and Community Resource Persons.
Through presentations, panel and plenary sessions, the approaches, accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned from the UHC intervention were disseminated to stakeholders. The session also stimulated policy-reset conversations among stakeholders to expound on approaches to accelerate health insurance uptake and utilization at the grassroots and leveraging the approach and lessons from the UHC intervention to advance Nigeria’s UHC quest towards expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare to the poor and vulnerable population.
