Expanding quality and affordable healthcare access to the poor and vulnerable requires subsidization for this population segment. In view of this, the novel Christian Aid-funded Universal Health Coverage intervention being implemented through DGI Foundation in Keffi LGA of Nasarawa State has recorded a milestone in the quest to expand health insurance coverage to the vulnerable population of the State. In addition to the 440 poor and vulnerable beneficiaries adopted by Christian Aid in the second phase of the intervention, advocacy to influential personalities within the community by the project’s community resource persons has led to the adoption of 145 community members.
The most notable of the adoption is the premium payment for 110 vulnerable persons for enrollment into the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme by a community member in the diaspora. This generous act was celebrated through a flag-off ceremony which was leveraged to appreciate other funders of adoption within the community. At the ceremony, other prominent community members, traditional leaders and informal sector groups were engaged and they committed to supporting the expansion of healthcare access to the poor and vulnerable population.
