Strengthening the capacity of facility management team to manage health resources, including manpower, money, and materials, is crucial to improving access to equitable and high-quality services. As part of efforts geared towards improving service delivery through an enhanced facility and financial management in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the USAID-funded Integrated Health Program (IHP) engaged DGI Consult to roll out a novel facility and financial management capacity-building program to strengthen the financial and operations management capacity of PHC officers in charge, ward development committees, and facility accountants in the FCT to effectively manage finances and operations for enhanced PHC service delivery. The facility and financial management capacity building program includes the FCT-level training-of-trainers workshop, Area Council-level training of PHC management, and mentoring and supervision of facilities.
To commence the capacity building program, DGI Consult in collaboration with the FCT Primary Health Care Board (FCT PHCB) facilitated a 3-day FCT-level training-of-trainers workshop from April 3rd – 5th, 2023 to train selected trainers from the FCT PHCB and the six Area Councils on the use of the PHC facility and financial and management training manual and toolkit developed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) with the support of IHP. The training focused on the 5 key operation areas of PHCs as contained in the manual. These include (a) PHC Management and Leadership; (b) Human Resource Requirements; (c) Financial Management; (d) Drugs and Consumables Management; and (e) Monitoring and Supervision.
The participants at the 3-day FCT training of trainers were also trained on the modalities for cascading the training to the PHC Officers-In-Charge, Ward Development Committee members and facility accountants in the 6 Area Councils in the FCT, which will be coordinated and monitored by DGI Consult.
