In view of the recently published article on the political economy of the design of BHCPF, DGI Consult through its Health System Research Forum (HSRF) organized a webinar themed “The Political Economy of Health Policy Design and Implementation in Nigeria: Translating Evidence into Practice” on 10th November 2022. The webinar organized in collaboration with the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) was geared towards expounding the findings and recommendations of the research and engaging experts on how to translate the body of evidence into action.
The webinar reflected on the local and international experience on the political economy of health policy and practical means of applying political economy in policy design and implementation locally and internationally. The webinar also reached a consensus, from a political economy lens, on what should be done differently to foster context-appropriate health policy design and successful implementation in Nigeria.
The webinar was moderated by Dr Frances Ilika (Director, Health System, Palladium) and had six speakers who are experts in health policy design, including some of the authors of the research article. These include: Prof. Ahmed Aliko (Associate Fellow, Global Health Program, Chatham House, UK); Professor Dina Balabanova (Professor of Health Systems and Policy, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine); Dr Kurfi Abubakar (Head, Policy, planning and International Division, NHIA); Chief (Mrs.) Moji Makanjuola (Executive Director, ISMPH); Dr Gafar Alawode: (Managing Partner, DGI Consult); and Dr Bolanle Sola-Faleye (Chief of Party, USAID/LHSS Project, Nigeria).
