DGI Consult is glad that the evidence generated from one of our research works has translated into government policy. In the quest to improve funding for family planning (FP) commodity procurement in Nigeria, DGI Consult was engaged by Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in 2020 to conduct a detailed fiscal space analysis (FSA) for FP commodity at the national level and in Lagos and Kaduna States. Based on the findings of the FSA, one of the actions recommended to close the funding gap for FP commodities is the allocation of 1% of the annual health budget to family planning at all levels.

The evidence generated from the FSA was used by CHAI to conduct evidence-based advocacy to all the relevant stakeholders. Consequently, the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire while expressing the commitment of the federal government to ensuring the availability of family planning commodities and services said the FP2030 commitment to increasing domestic funding and sustainable financing will be launched through earmarking 1% of the health budget at federal and state levels and perhaps also at local government level.

DGI will support efforts towards ensuring that this policy is translated into implementable policy thrusts that could redefine the FP financing landscape in Nigeria.
